Mandarin Oriental Hotel Group is expanding its presence in London with the opening of Mandarin Oriental Mayfair, London this winter. Located on historic Hanover Square, the new hotel will offer 50 rooms and 78 private residences as a sister property to Mandarin Oriental Hyde Park. It will also house the first namesake Akira Back restaurant in the U.K. from Michelin Starred Chef Akira Back, as well as his ABar Lounge concept.
Mandarin Oriental Mayfair will be within walking distance of some of London’s top fashion houses on Bond Street and the boutiques of Saville Row, as well as auction houses and art galleries. Taking advantage of its location, the hotel will offer guests and MO Fans exclusive access and experiences from high fashion to art, culture and dining. Leading the design of the hotel are Rogers Stirk Harbour + Partners (the talent behind the Lloyd’s building and the “Cheesegrater” in London, as well as the Pompidou Centre in Paris). Tokyo-based studio Curiosity is tackling the interiors, where works by local British artists are featured throughout, along with one-off furniture pieces curated by Curiosity’s founder, Gwenael Nicolas. The 50 guestrooms and suites have been designed by U.K.-based Studio Indigo, “embracing a British style influenced by the hotel’s iconic location,” according to Mandarin Oriental.
On the dining front, Chef Back makes his U.K. debut at Mandarin Oriental Mayfair. Born in Korea and raised in Aspen, CO, the Michelin-starred chef has a diverse portfolio of over 20 restaurants and lounges around the globe. The brand’s mission statement is “to make unforgettable memories for guests by revolutionizing the dining experience through one-of-a-kind dishes and gracious service.”
The Spa at Mandarin Oriental Mayfair will have an 80-foot indoor swimming pool, sauna, vitality pool, relaxation room and a myriad of bespoke wellness treatments.
